How it works
- The 24-hour clock runs 00:00–23:59 once per day; the 12-hour clock repeats 1–12 with AM and PM. Converting is an hour remap; minutes and seconds pass through unchanged.
- Hour 00 becomes 12:00 AM (midnight) and hour 12 becomes 12:00 PM (noon). These two cases cause most conversion mistakes and are handled explicitly here.
- Times outside 00:00–23:59 (such as 24:30, which is a duration rather than a time of day) are rejected with an explanation instead of rolled over silently.
Good to know
- Optional seconds are preserved: 13:07:45 converts to 1:07:45 PM.
- The military (four-digit) form is shown alongside: 14:30 is 2:30 PM and 1430.
- This tool converts format only. For zone-aware instants, use the time zone converter.

Frequently asked questions
What is 00:00 in 12-hour time?
12:00 AM. Hour zero maps to midnight, written 12 AM on the 12-hour clock. 12:00 (noon) is 12:00 PM.
Why does 24:30 fail to parse?
The 24-hour clock runs 00:00–23:59. 24:30 is not a valid time of day (it is a duration expression). The tool rejects it clearly rather than rolling it over into the next day silently.
Does the converter keep seconds?
Yes, optional seconds are preserved exactly; for example, 13:07:45 converts to 1:07:45 PM.
